Za Mnogo Godini!

За Много Години!
(New year greeting - To many (more) years!)

Been a while since my last update...sorry!
2011 was a busy year, we really tried to sort out how we were running and promoting the guesthouse & watersports, as well as trying to predict what the next season might bringVeg garden early season us!
We also spent a lot of time improving the house garden, and created a new vegetable plot within our lower orchard garden, which was a lot of work but very successful for year one, I think! We're still dining on the (preserved, dried, cellar'd) produce!
Quite a few friends & family visited in 2011, which helped keep us busy in between rentals. Also, from April through to August we were at the lake almost every weekend (which means driving up there, launching the boat, working all day, recovering the boat then taking it back home) waiting at the “pontoon” at “Café Shark” for prospective customers...
We had our first UK wakeboarder in July, who sadly only found us the day before he returned to the UK, but described his 15 minutes as “the best wakeboarding (he's) ever had” at the most beautiful place” Praise indeed for Stambolijski Reservoir!!
Unfortunately, the expected (hoped-for) business from Bulgarian visitors to the lake simply failed to materialise; they seemed content to sit, eat and drink, and just watch everything happen around them. This season we'll re-double our efforts to market our activities & trips to British and foreign tourists who seem far keener to indulge themselves in some exciting activities while on holiday!
We did manage to rent the whole house out to several Bulgarian groups for weekends during the summer; they absolutely loved the house, and admitted it was a far higher standard than they'd expected, or had ever stayed in previously. Hopefully we'll manage to persuade them to return, maybe with another of our weekend packages!
One of the season's first packages will be for the Bulgarian round of the Motocross GP, at nearby Sevlievo's Gorna Rositsa Circuit (more in my next blog entry) and we'll also be offering a package for Easter, to include a special meal of whole roast lamb, prepared by one of our neighbours in a traditional clay oven!
Ongoing will also be our lake packages, a weekend's house rental along with either a lake sightseeing trip (view the whole of Stambolijski Reservoir's 20km length from the water) or watersports sessions for your whole group (on inflatables, kneeboard or wakeboard, according to experience/bravery levels!)
We continue to offer Bed & Breakfast rooms, when it fits in with other bookings, and these have proved popular with Bulgarians and other tourists coming to the area.
Our Bulgarian guests didn't seem to get the “breakfast” part of B&B – usually declining anything offered in the morning, despite my explaining that it's all included! Our house is also really convenient if you want to come for one of our Curry Nights (which we run in conjunction with Cafe Niya in the village) and don't fancy driving back to your accommodation or home. We're running these events monthly, and so far they've all been fully booked, with great feedback from our diners about the dishes we've offered!
Until next time, (promise it won't be so long)

Nazdrave, Rob.
